Kamla’s Comeback 2025

Kamla’s Comeback:

Trinidad and Tobago Elects Kamla Persad-Bissessar Again...

In a rousing victory speech delivered to jubilant crowds on Monday night, Persad-Bissessar wasted no time outlining her priorities:

“This victory is for the senior citizens to keep their pensions. This victory is for public servants to get their rightful salary increases. This victory is to reopen the children’s hospital … This victory is to once again give laptops to our children. This victory is to create over 50,000 jobs. And so, the victory is yours.”

PORT OF SPAIN – In a stunning political turnaround, voters in Trinidad and Tobago have ousted the ruling People’s National Movement (PNM), electing Kamla Persad-Bissessar and the United National Congress (UNC) back into power.

At 73, Persad-Bissessar makes history once again, returning as Prime Minister of the twin-island nation nearly a decade after her first term (2010–2015). She remains the only woman to have held the country’s top office.

The win marks not just a change in government, but a major comeback for both Persad-Bissessar and the UNC, which in recent years faced internal party turmoil, high-profile resignations, and successive election losses. Her steady leadership and populist messaging struck a chord with voters eager for economic stability, better public services, and renewed social programs.

A seasoned attorney and trailblazer, Persad-Bissessar first led the UNC in 2010, making history and inspiring a new generation of political engagement in the region. Her return to the nation’s highest office signals a shift in the electorate’s desire for bold, familiar leadership in uncertain times.
