Calling Out Hollywood

Lupita Nyong'o has joined other prominent people of colour in Hollywood criticising the Oscars for its glaring lack of diverstity. "I am disappointed by the lack of inclusion in this year's Academy Awards nominations ... I stand with my peers who are calling for change in expanding the stories that are told and recognition of the people who tell them." Idris Elba used a speech at the Houses of Parliament to call for more diversity in British television industry. He said that the lack of roles for people of colour would have left him forever playing "the best friend" or the "cop sidekick", which was a reason he chose to go to America instead.
